CaRDI offers a variety of training opportunities to support agriculture and food-based development. The opportunities range from leadership development programs and annual conference tracks, to on-farm workshops, occasional webinars, and agriculture development professional networking sessions. Upcoming training and professional development opportunities are posted in The Communique, CaRDI’s monthly e-newsletter.
There is a cadre of extension and other professionals, as well as other local leaders, working at the intersection of agriculture & food systems and community development to strengthen both the farm and food industry and communities. In practice these individuals assist producers, other citizens, and communities (as a whole) through the development of educational programs, tools, and resources which help members of these groups meet their individual and shared goals (e.g.: developing markets and strengthening the economy, ensuring food security, and protecting the environment, etc.) CaRDI works with and supports the work of these extension professionals through the training programs identified above as well as opportunities for peer to peer support and exchange of best practices. Our goal is to provide ag development professionals and those they work with on behalf of communities with resources and opportunities they need to support one another as they explore and pursue innovative community and economic development opportunities. One of the venues through which we provide this support is through co-leadership for the Agricultural Marketing and Community Development Program Work Team. In this role, CaRDI supports the following AMCD PWT programs.
- Cornell Agriculture and Food Systems Inservice Agricultural Community and Economic Development Track
- AGMKTGCOMDEV-L- a listserv for community development professionals
- Ag Marketing Community Development PWT Round Robin Networking Sessions
- Agriculture Marketing Community Development Update
